A few seconds of fireworks can make a beautiful moment, but carelessness can cause burns, fires and frightened animals. Plan them as carefully as any other part of the wedding.
Use a licensed, experienced provider
Fireworks should be handled by people who do it professionally and hold the permissions required in your area. Ask the provider about their licence, their experience at weddings and how they store and transport the fireworks.
Check the venue rules first
Many halls, banquets and housing societies do not allow fireworks at all, or allow only certain types at certain spots. Ask the venue in writing, and check whether local authorities have any restrictions, especially during festivals or in dry weather.
Keep safe distances
- Set up fireworks in an open area away from tents, shamianas, fabric decorations, generators and parked cars.
- Keep guests, especially children and the elderly, well behind a marked line.
- Keep the ghodi, baggi horses and any pets far away; loud bangs frighten animals.
- Never light fireworks inside a hall or close to the mandap.
Timing and noise
Respect night-time noise rules and avoid loud crackers late at night. Short, well-timed displays at the couple's entry or after the varmala are more memorable than long, noisy ones.
Have safety ready
- Buckets of water and sand, and a fire extinguisher nearby.
- A first-aid kit and someone who knows where the nearest hospital is.
- One person in charge of the display, with no one else lighting anything.
Consider safer options
Cold pyro and other low-smoke effects can create a spectacular look with less risk, often allowed even indoors. Ask your provider and venue.
