Use this checklist before you pay an advance to a fireworks or special-effects provider.
About the provider
- Do they hold the licence or permissions required in your area?
- How many weddings have they done recently, and can they show videos?
- Who will operate the display, and how experienced is that person?
About the display
- Exactly which items or effects will be used, and how many?
- For cold pyro: how many machines, and how long does each burst last?
- How much space is needed, and how far must guests stand?
- Will the display create smoke, ash or debris, and who will clean it up?
Venue and permissions
- Have you confirmed in writing that the venue allows these effects?
- Who will arrange any local permission needed?
- Does the timing fall within the venue's and the area's noise limits?
Safety arrangements
- Fire extinguisher, water and sand on site.
- A barricade or marked safe line for guests.
- A plan to keep animals, children and decorations away.
- What happens if it rains or the wind is strong?
Timing and coordination
- Reporting time and setup time.
- The exact cue, and who will give it on the day.
- The contact number of the operator and of your family coordinator.
Money
- Total price, advance and balance.
- Any charges for travel, extra effects or overtime.
- The refund or reschedule policy if the display cannot go ahead due to rules or weather.
