On your wedding day you want to look like yourself, only more radiant, and you want the look to last through hours of rituals, heat and photos. The right makeup artist makes that possible.

Study portfolios carefully

Look for brides with a skin tone and face shape similar to yours. Check photos taken in natural light, not only heavily edited ones, and see whether the artist's work looks fresh and natural or heavy. Watch their videos too, where editing is harder.

Match the artist to your style

Some artists are known for soft, natural makeup; others for bold, glamorous looks or traditional Maharashtrian bridal styling with a nath and chandrakor. Choose someone whose usual style is close to what you want.

Ask about products and hygiene

  • Which brands do they use, and are the products within their expiry date?
  • Do they use clean brushes and disposable applicators for each client?
  • How do they handle sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Hair, draping and extras

Ask whether hair styling, saree or dupatta draping, nail colour and the setting of jewellery and flowers are included. Some artists bring a separate hairstylist.

Book a trial

A trial lets you see the look in person and gives the artist time to understand your skin. Wear a top in a similar colour to your outfit, and take photos in daylight and indoor light.

Plan the wedding-day timing

Bridal makeup usually takes two to three hours. Work backwards from the muhurat or reception time and leave a buffer. Confirm whether the artist will stay for touch-ups and the outfit change.
