Makeup artists often offer "HD" and "airbrush" bridal packages at different prices. Both can look beautiful; the right choice depends on your skin, your season and the look you want.
HD makeup
HD makeup uses light-reflecting products designed to look smooth and natural in high-definition cameras. It is applied with brushes and sponges.
- Finish: natural, skin-like, can be built up for more coverage.
- Good for: most skin types, especially dry or normal skin, and brides who want a soft look.
- Touch-ups: easy, as the artist can blend more product later.
Airbrush makeup
Airbrush makeup is sprayed on in a fine mist using a small compressor. It forms a thin, even layer.
- Finish: very even and smooth, often slightly more "polished".
- Good for: oily skin, hot and humid weather, and long functions where you want the base to stay put.
- Touch-ups: possible, but the artist needs the machine nearby.
What actually matters more
The technique matters less than the artist's skill and your skin preparation. An excellent HD makeup can outlast a poorly done airbrush base, and the other way round. Ask the artist which method they are most experienced with.
Questions to ask
- Which method do you recommend for my skin type and the season of my wedding?
- Can I try both during the trial, or see photos of each on brides like me?
- How long will the base last through rituals and the reception?
- Is the price difference only for the base, or for the whole look?
Prepare your skin
Whatever method you choose, start a simple skincare routine a few months before: cleanse, moisturise, use sunscreen, drink enough water and avoid trying new treatments in the last two weeks.
