A couple dance is a sweet moment for family and friends, even if neither of you has danced before. The goal is to enjoy it together, not to perform perfectly.
Pick the right song
Choose a song that means something to both of you, or simply one you both love. Many couples use a short medley: a romantic start, then a fun, faster song that brings smiles. Keep the total under three or four minutes.
Keep the steps simple
- Use a few steps you can repeat, rather than many complicated moves.
- Add one or two "moments": a twirl, a lift if you are comfortable, or a playful bit that matches the lyrics.
- Face the audience and leave space for natural smiles and eye contact.
Practise smartly
- Start four to six weeks ahead with short sessions of 20 to 30 minutes.
- Record the routine on your phone and practise at home in the evenings.
- Practise at least twice in shoes and outfits similar to what you will wear.
Dance in wedding outfits
Heavy lehengas, sarees and sherwanis change how you move. Ask your choreographer to adjust turns and spins so the dupatta and jewellery stay in place. Pin the dupatta securely and check the length of the outfit so you do not trip.
On the night
- Give the DJ the exact track and agree on the cue.
- Walk through the stage space before guests arrive.
- If you forget a step, smile and keep moving; guests will only remember the joy.
Invite the family in
A lovely ending is to invite parents, siblings and friends to join you on the last chorus.
