The mehendi function is often the most fun day of the wedding, but it can turn into a long wait if too many guests want designs at once. A little planning keeps everyone happy.

Estimate the number of guests

Ask close family and friends in advance who would like mehendi. Usually it is the women of both families and close friends, but more and more men ask for small designs too. Add a few extra for last-minute requests.

Plan the time per guest

  • A simple design on one hand: about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Both hands, front and back: 30 minutes or more.
  • Detailed designs take much longer.

Decide in advance what kind of design guests will get, for example a simple pattern on one or both palms, so the artists can plan.

How many artists you need

Divide the total time needed by the hours of your function. For example, 40 guests at 15 minutes each is 10 hours of work; with four artists, it takes about two and a half hours. Ask your bridal artist to bring a team so the bride's design is not interrupted.

Keep it flowing

  • Set up comfortable seating with good light for each artist.
  • Keep a list of guests in the order they will get mehendi.
  • Serve snacks and drinks that are easy to have without using hands, or arrange for someone to help.
  • Play music and plan small activities so guests enjoy the wait.

Understand the pricing

Artists may charge per hand, per guest or a fixed rate for the team and the hours. Confirm what is included, travel charges, and the rate for extra guests on the day.
