A written running order keeps the anchor, the DJ, the photographers and the family team on the same page. Here is a simple sample for an evening reception; adjust the times to your venue's limits.

Sample running order

  • 7:00 pm: guests arrive; soft music and welcome drinks.
  • 7:30 pm: the anchor welcomes guests and introduces both families.
  • 7:40 pm: the couple's grand entry, with music and any special effect.
  • 7:50 pm: a short welcome speech by a parent or elder.
  • 8:00 pm: the couple dance or a short family performance.
  • 8:15 pm: cake cutting or a toast, if part of your tradition.
  • 8:20 pm: stage photos with families and friends, group by group; the anchor calls each group.
  • 8:20 pm onwards: dinner opens.
  • 9:15 pm: dance floor opens for everyone.
  • 9:55 pm: last song, and a thank-you from the anchor.

Tips for a smooth evening

  • Put the most important moments early, when most guests are present.
  • Keep speeches to two or three minutes each.
  • Give the photographer a list of the family groups for stage photos so the anchor can call them in order.
  • Make sure the couple eats; plan a short break for them.
  • Assign one family member to keep the anchor informed of any changes.

Share it in advance

Send the running order to everyone involved a week before, and print a few copies for the stage, the DJ console and the family coordinator.

Plan your reception with verified anchors and DJs on Wedding Events and share this running order with them.
