Use this checklist when you book a ghodi or baggi so nothing is left to chance on the wedding day.

When booking

  • Date, reporting time and expected duration.
  • The exact starting point with a map location, and the destination.
  • Whether you need the horse for one event or two, such as the baraat and the couple's return.
  • Decoration: flowers, lights, umbrella, saddle cover or carriage decoration.
  • The number of handlers or drivers.
  • Total price, advance, overtime rate and travel charges, written on the receipt.

Share with the provider

  • The contact number of your family coordinator for the day.
  • The baraat route, and any narrow lanes, slopes or busy roads.
  • Whether there will be a band, DJ or dhol-tasha, and where the speakers will be.
  • Whether fireworks are planned, so they can be kept well away.

A week before

  • Call to confirm the date and time.
  • Share a reminder with the map location.
  • Plan where the horse or baggi will be parked before the baraat starts.

On the wedding day

  • The coordinator confirms that the horse and handler have arrived on time.
  • Check the decoration and the saddle or seat before the groom gets on.
  • Arrange a stool or step for the groom to mount safely.
  • Keep water ready for the horse.
  • Keep children and dancers at a safe distance.

After the baraat

Pay the balance and any agreed overtime, and thank the handler. A good experience is worth recommending to friends.
